Doggie

So I've pretty much decided that I'm going to get Eric a dog for Christmas or his birthday (in Jan.) I'm still worried and nervous. I know it's going to be a pain for awhile, but it's proving my commitment. And come on, they're really stinkin cute. Thanks for all of your advice! Maybe having a dog will get him to come around on the baby front? Who knows? Haha.....

So, does anyone know of either a good breeder or shelter where I can get a YOUNG dog? The key thing Eric wants is a puppy. I would rather rescue an older, trained dog, but he really wants a puppy, so my boy gets what he wants. I need your help if you live near the PA, DE, MD area!

Hopefully I'll figure it out soon!

You can still rescue a puppy! We got our 2nd dog at the pound and she was 7 months old. She has actually been far less maintenance then the non pound dog (the non pound dog has cost us literally THOUSANDS of dollars, suckage.) I would keep your eyes peeled at the local pounds around your area. Even if you need to drive a bit you never know. Also, the want ads in the newspaper are always a good place to look for puppies - just make sure if you buy a dog from someone that you get a record that the dog had it shots JUST IN CASE. Long story on my part! Dogs are lovely - lots of work but worth it. Also, dogs give you an idea of what it is like to be a parent ESPECIALLY a puppy who needs to be potty trained (out every hour all night long, etc...) GOOD LUCK and I cannot wait to see the new "addition"!!!

That picture is adorable!!!

What kind of puppy are you looking for? We used a friend/breeder in PA for our labrador retriever...we could find out if they're expecting any litters. Let me know!

My parents have a lab breeder in NJ; let me know if you want me to find the name. But rolling off the edge is right -- puppies are pretty common in shelters, so you can still rescue if you want!
